Located close to Shantou¡¯s main coastal road, People¡¯s Square is a popular place for local people to get some fresh air and to socialize. The square is quite big, and is decorated with grand steps and columns in a modern style. There is a charming fountain which on summer evenings is used to give performances of ¡®dancing water¡¯, accompanied by lights and music. Green lawns and white statues of sea shells and happy children give an attractive appearance, which completes the feeling of space and beauty.

Here too local people love to gather to enjoy Chaoshan opera and drink Gongfu tea together. Parents like to bring along their little children who can enjoy riding on charming model animals driven by electric motors. It is not unusual to see teenagers practicing on their roller-skates, or young lovers strolling happily to enjoy the open air.
